Top Low FODMAP Diet Books Available On Amazon
(revisited February 2017)
When I was first diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, my GP referred me to a dietitian, who was familiar with IBS symptoms and advised me to go on a FODMAP elimination diet. She also suggested to download the Low-FODMAP Monash University smartphone app, as a handy guide to check what food to avoid and what food is low in FODMAPs. I believe that the app is a fantastic resource, especially for those new to IBS and to the low FODMAP diet. I also believe that a specialised dietitian can assist you effectively to make sure you are following the diet correctly for your individual case.
Books, in addition to professional guidance, can also help, especially with providing tasty low FODMAP recipes.
In this post I have compiled a list of some of the best selling Low FODMAP diet books, which can be bought online from Amazon (affiliate links).
I have purchased quite a few of the books listed here and found them very useful. I have tried several of the simple recipes and they turned up very nice.
Regarding the recipes enclosed in these books, you may want to check if you are familiar with the measurements (grams, ounces, cups etc.); personally I don’t have a problem understanding cups, spoons as well as the metric system (grams, liters etc.), but I am not too good with the imperial measurements, saying that, if I find a recipe I like that talks in ‘oz’, I just convert it with one of the measurement converter that can be printed or one that can be used online.
In addition to the different measurements, some recipes may contain ingredients (or products) that are not available in every country or that they are known with a different name.
Please let me know in the comment section, if you have bought any of these books (or other low FODMAP diet books) and how they have helped you.
The 2-Step Low FODMAP Eating Plan (author Sue Shepherd PHD) – 288 pages
I have bought this book as soon as it was out in Australia and it is probably one of my favourite low FODMAP book and definitely the one I consult the most by Dr. Sue Shepherd. This book is ideal for people new to the diet as combines a guide to the diet and a recipe book in one.
The first 90 plus pages explain about what is IBS, what are FODMAPs and it goes into details about each FODMAP group before talking about the elimination and re-introduction phases of the diet. It is a very good guide to start you off in the right direction with the diet. There are also menu plans for adults, kids, vegetarians and vegans.
The 80 recipes take up most part of the book and in my version (bought in Australia) the quantities of the ingredients are metric and cups (Australian cup), I am not sure about the version sold in America as I have been unable to verify it, (please let me know, if you do know)! The recipes are interesting and the ones I have tried were very nice. I really like the beautiful colour images.
